Visa Information
Visa Requierements
As the Brazilian Foreign Office bases its actions on reciprocity, visitors from some foreign countries will require a visa by applying to the nearest Brazilian Embassy or Consulate. Requirements for a tourist visa include a passport valid for at least six months from the date of arrival, one passport size photograph and a round trip ticket. Most international airlines can advise on visa requirements for tourists.

Who needs a VISA:
1. Citizens of foreign countries traveling to Brazil for tourism purposes usually need a visa before entering Brazil. This demand is based on the principle of reciprocity and applies to nationals of countries that demand a visa from Brazilians.
2. Citizens of countries that do not require visas from Brazilians usually do not require a visa for coming to Brazil.
Countries for which a tourism visa (up to 90 days) IS NOT required for traveling to Brazil:

Language
Portuguese is the official language all over Brazilian territory, but English and Spanish are usually spoken in touristic areas. A traveler’s dictionary with expressions in the local language might be very useful.
Time zone
Brazilian time zone varies within UTC/GMT -2h and -5h according to the region. In the South region, where Florianópolis is located, the standard time zone is the same as Brasilia, official time of the country: UCT/GMT -3h.
Voltage
Voltage in Brazil is not standardized, and depends on each State or city. In Florianópolis, the standard voltage is 220 V.
Telephone Calls
Brazil area code is 55. City codes vary according to the region, and the one in Florianópolis is 48. To make international calls, you need to dial country code, city code (omitting initial zero, whenever applicable), and then the remaining numbers. In order to use cell phones from another country in Brazil, 3G technology is required.
Currency
Local currency is real (R$). The equivalent dollar Exchange rate, in July 2016, is of US$ 1 to R$ 3,3. Dollars and Euros can be easily exchanged in hotels, authorized banks, and travel agencies. International debt and credit cards (Visa and Master Card) are accepted in most places. Many hotels also take Amex. Debit cards can be used to withdraw money in local currency at ATMs.
Tips
Almost all bars and restaurants include the tip on the tab, but the payment is optional. If the tip has not been specified, the general rule is paying within 10% and 15% of the total amount. Taxi drivers do not expect any tips.
Taxis and car rental
At major airports, bus stations and in downtown area is possible to find car rental agencies, which offer services with or without driver. Tourists who have foreign driver’s license are authorized to drive in Brazil when staying for less than 180 days. Regulated by municipalities, taxi services are offered in all big cities in Brazil. Taxis can also be called via radio taxi service or through smart phones apps. Prices are calculated by taximeter (Night additional fee after 08:00 p.m., Sundays and holidays, and regular fee otherwise), according to the distance traveled. Taxi routes departing from international airports charge fixed rates.

WINTER AND SUMMER IN FLORIANÓPOLIS
The Florianópolis is a subtropical city. Summer extends from December to March with temperatures ranging from 25 ° C (77°F) to 35°C (95°F); Winter lasts from June to August, with the temperature around 15° C (58°F) during the day and 10° C (50°F) at night.
There are sunny skies throughout the winter period, which means it is perfect to enjoy the beaches and the many tourist attractions.
SPRING AND AUTUMN IN FLORIANÓPOLIS
Spring and autumn in Florianópolis see a gentle cool and warming in temperature with slightly less rain than the summer and slightly more rain than the winter. The humidity in both can be quite high, especially at the end of spring and start of autumn.
CREDIT CARDS
The main credit cards are accepted in Brazil. Visa, MasterCard, Diners and American Express are accepted in almost all commercial facilities.
GRATUITIES
Hotels: hotels generally include the service charges on accounts.
Restaurants: tips are optional but are often found at the end of the bill as a "suggestion". Florianópolis normally pay up 10%.
Taxis: Taxi drivers do not require a tip, although most passengers round for more tariff to be paid when you are satisfied with the service.
Hotel Chargers and airport: R$ 3.00 per bag.
